CONFIGURATION:

CAB2 with Plantroom

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:

Lions Park had existing toilet facilities, voluntary labour built, that did not comply with AS1428.1. They were very hard to clean, and did not present a favourable picture of Nanango on its southern approaches. Road traffic in the area was on the increase due to mine activity and travelling public. The decision was made to build new compliant facility, and demolish the existing facilities. There was, sewer, water and power services available on site. Disabled access was mandatory for public use.

OUR UNIQUE SOLUTION:

A Conablue CAB 2 + Plantroom with two AS1428.1 (2001) compliant booths satisfied the disabled access requirements. The plantroom houses all the cisterns, drainage plumbing, water in plumbing, electrical services, sharps collection units and janitorial supplies storage. After the approval process, the complete building was shipped to site and erected in three days on a pad prepared by the client. The facility was slightly elevated above general ground level to aid water shedding away from the building surrounds. This elevation took account of the need to have compliant gradient footpath access to the dedicated disabled car park spaces and the other site features; playground, seats and shelters, barbeques. Local plumbing, electrical, concrete and painting contractors were then co-ordinated to connect services and allied works. The design of the plant room allows for easy installation of drainage plumbing, with IOs at every bend and junction for easy management of sewer chokes, and installation of electrical services. All services enter the plantroom though cast in ports in the concrete floor, so external conduits are eliminated. The local power authority arranged disconnection and reconnection of aerials during the erection process to have minimal effect on other activities at the site. Local concrete contractor layed access footpaths and building surround footpaths, all tinted to similar colour as the CAB 2 concrete floor. The colour specification was passed on by us to the contractor. Finally, council staff demolished the old facility, upgraded parking areas and entrances, and landscaped the area including turf. The project was completed within three weeks. The facility is now a welcoming feature to the town of Nanago.
