CONFIGURATION:

  • 1 x AS1428.1 (2001) unisex booth
  • 2 x female standard booths
  • 2 x male standard booths
  • Plant room

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:

Pureablue had designed constructed a similar toilet facility for Warwick Sire Council in Rotary Park Warwick. The facility was to be operational 24 hours a day, no lock up.
The newly created Southern Downs Regional Council which amalgamated Warwick and Stanthorpe Councils, decided they required a similar updated toilet facility for an existing non compliant toilet facility at Leslie Park . Leslie Park is adjacent to the main street. Other facilities at the park are playgrounds, bowling greens, rotunda, senior citizens meeting rooms.
Night time anti social activities was not regarded as high as the site was across the road from the police station. Hence, the verandah circulation space was orientated to face the police station.

OUR UNIQUE SOLUTION:

Our Conablue™ Stainless+ Concrete™ Panel system (a concrete pre-cast panel system with integral stainless steel internal lining) was specified for all toilet wall panels.
Crime Prevention Through Environment Design (CPTED), a design guideline Pureablue recommends to be implemented in their designs, specifies that all toilet booths open onto public space - no female/male subdivision within the building - hence the five booths all open on to public space in full view of the adjacent police station.
The plant room allows for all the cisterns, drainage plumbing, water in plumbing, sharps collection units and power board/conduits, to be located out of vandal attack, and, are readily available for servicing.
Sharps collection is by inclined stainless steel conduits cast in to the concrete wall, flush with the internal wall of the booths, with a cradle supporting collection containers in the plant room.
These were proprietary plastic containers. However, issues with smokers dropping alight butts in to the container via the conduits and causing fires has arisen. Pureablue does manufacture a stainless steel sharps collection unit that clips to a wall bracket.
Sewer chokes through inappropriate disposal of sanitary napkins and food packaging are quite common in public toilets. All drainage plumbing is accessible in the plant room and with IOs at every junction and bend means that these chokes can be readily remedied by council staff avoiding a call out to a plumbing contractor.
A floor waste is located in the plant room, and the access doors have a raised hob. Any surcharge of sewer in the plant room can be managed without waste surcharging on to a public space. Janitorial hardware can also be stored in this plant room.
SDRC staff constructed footpaths and low elevation landscaping (to maintain the open view of the facility), and arranged for flood lighting of the verandah area and the approaches. The facility is to be kept open 24 hours a day.
