| If you manage public
toilet facilities in remote areas such as road-side rest
areas, you will be well
aware of the extent that vandals and thieves will go to
to deface the public property. After trying many
different types of hardware to prevent solar panels,
battery packs and lighting systems being vandalised or
stolen in vein, we developed the BYOLight. A lighting
system for road-side rest areas that we believe is as
close to vandal-proof as is possible.
The concept of the BYOlight is to use the lights of a
visitors car to shine on the target concrete block
(block weighs 2.5 tonne) with cast in Stainless Steel
sheet with BA finish. And through a set of reflective
panels reflect the light through the building skylight
into the toilet booths and on the building verandah. A KISS solution.
The advantages are:
- No moving parts
- No parts of any alternate use
- Removable parts mounted high on tower with no climbing points.
- No energy inputs.
- Maintenance free
As per the diagram, operations are pretty straight forward. The
tower is positioned to suit parking available on the site. Vehicles park as directed by signs.
If the night light parking bay is occupied, a sign is placed a distance back so that if another
vehicle arrives , it waits until said vehicle departs, and then moves to the night light parking bay.
The BYOlight has been installed in five locations to
date - all remain vandal free. |
